Description
A Marklin O-gauge model 1943 JG Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) sleeping car (Schlafwagen). The car is constructed from lithographed tinplate with a dark blue body and gold-tone lettering and pinstriping. The exterior is marked Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lits et des Grands Express Europeens along the roofline, with Voiture-Lits, Amsterdam-Basel, and Sleeping Car on the side panels. It features a hinged opening roof in matte gray with multiple molded ventilators, revealing a detailed interior containing six partitioned sleeping compartments with simulated beds. The car is mounted on two four-wheel bogie trucks with standard Marklin automatic couplings. Visible markings include Marklin and Germany on the car ends, with Marklin and an inspection stamp Unt. 18.9.43 on the lower frame. The lot includes the original two-piece cardboard box with a manufacturer label reading 1St 1943 JG Amsterdam Basel and Made in Germany. Also included are four miniature rolled paper newspaper accessories. Car is 40 cm long.
