Description
This vintage model train set is manufactured by The A.C. Gilbert Co. of New Haven, CT. The set is identified as model number 20530 and is built to a 3/16 inch scale S-gauge. The locomotive is a No. 21130 4-6-2 steam engine with a die-cast metal chassis and cab bearing the corresponding number. It is paired with a black tender featuring the American Flyer Lines name and the New York Central System circular logo. The collection includes a group of rolling stock: a No. 24109 Chesapeake and Ohio pipe car with silver-toned pipe loads and yellow stakes; a No. 24558 Canadian Pacific flatcar carrying four model evergreen trees (in very fragile condition from age); a No. 24413 American Refrigerator Transit Co. refrigerator car in orange with Wabash and Missouri Pacific markings; a No. 24316 red Mobilgas tank car; a No. 24043 blue Boston and Maine boxcar with black sliding doors; and a No. 24633 silver radio-equipped caboose. Construction materials include die-cast metal for the locomotive and a combination of plastic and tinplate components for the rolling stock. The set is accompanied by its original master carton and several individual component boxes, including boxes for the pipe car, Christmas tree transport, Mobilgas tank, caboose, uncoupler, and Hudson tender. Original boxes have minor wear.
