Description
This is a Lionel No. 455 Oil Derrick and Pumper, an operating model railroad accessory manufactured by The Lionel Corporation. The structure features a green-painted metal latticework derrick tower topped with a red-painted metal platform. The entire assembly is mounted on a red-painted metal base. The accessory includes a maroon-painted walking-beam pumper mechanism and an orange plastic generator housing. A vertical yellow plastic tube is housed within the derrick, designed to simulate the flow of oil through a bubbling action when powered. A diamond-shaped sign attached to the tower displays the Sunoco logo and reads Oil Derrick No. 455. The lot includes the original cardboard shipping and storage box, which features an orange label with the text No. 455, Oil Derrick and Pumper, Lionel Trains, and The Lionel Corporation.
