Description
An extensive collection of vintage Lionel O-gauge model railroad miniature billboard accessories, dating primarily from the early to mid-1950s. The group includes several green molded plastic billboard frames, with the bases incised with the word Standard. The assortment features both standard non-illuminated frames and No. 410 Billboard Blinker units equipped with overhead lamp housings and associated wiring. A large quantity of miniature billboard posters is included, which were produced for the Lionel Corporation in cooperation with Standard Outdoor Advertising, Inc. These lithographed paper placards include individual cut examples and several original uncut four-poster sheets. Mid-century brands featured include Baby Ruth, Wrigley’s Spearmint, Sunoco, Plymouth, Ford V-8, Heinz, Coca-Cola, DuPont Zerex, Airex, Nash, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, and Silver Springs Florida. Some posters are identified by year, including series from 1950, 1951, 1952, 1954, and 1955. Original cardboard packaging is present for No. 410 Billboard Blinker and No. 310 Billboard Set. One box retains a vintage dealer label from the Madison Hardware Co., 105 E. 23rd St., New York, N.Y.
